Are You Building a Lifetime Practice?

Published Septmber 23rd 2019

The RDV Panel Discussion on building a lifetime movement practice is now on our Youtube Channel!

The theme of the 2019 edition of the Rendezvous International Parkour Gathering was ‘To Be & To Last: Longevity in Movement Practice’. The three training days focused heavily on the concepts, principles and methods behind shaping your training around this fundamental value at the heart of parkour. Parkour is not a practice based solely, or even principally, on performance levels or physical achievements; it’s a lifetime practice that can be used to stay healthy, strong and well for the whole of your life.

This approach – training to be healthy rather than simply ‘to be fit’ – leads to a more holistic and long-term approach to one’s practice methodology, modality and structure. It brings into question the concepts of programming and periodization, and draws on the experience and natural wisdom of older physical practices and lifestyles, such as those of the ‘Blue Zone’ cultures which are the most long-lived on Earth.

Day One of Rendezvous 2019 rounded off with a panel discussion and group dialogue on this essential topic with three expert panellists:

Dan Edwardes, founder of Parkour Generations, Training Director of the global ADAPT Qualifications for parkour coaching and practical movement specialist.

Nala Hurst, Wild Fitness coach and biophilia expert, retreat leader and holistic personal trainer.

Blake Evitt, director of Parkour Generations Americas, ex elite USA college-level athlete and international parkour coach. Panel moderator: Alan Tran of the USA’s Enso Movement.
