About Us

1
What is Parkour Generations?

Parkour Generations is a multi-award winning global organisation that provides training, education, performance, facility design and consulting for the stunning movement discipline of parkour or freerunning. Since 2005 our singular purpose has been to transmit the incredibly strong benefits and positive effects of this amazing art form, to help people everywhere achieve the full potential of their body and mind through movement. Comprised of founders, pioneers and principal developers of the discipline from across all generations, Parkour Generations brings parkour to the world.

2
Our Goal

We build better people through the transformative movement discipline known as parkour or freerunning. We do this through teaching, performing, educating, designing, consulting and building incredible communities all around the world.

3
Holistic Practice

Parkour is the ultimate holistic discipline, a true transformative practice that requires absolute unity of body and mind to overcome the challenges and tasks in one’s path. We think this principle of the integrated whole individual can and should be applied across every aspect of one’s life, from training to work, relationships, strategies and much more. Parkour is as much about mastery of one’s own life as it is about mastery of one’s own movement.

4
Self Knowledge

Parkour is you, stripped down and exposed to challenges, tasks and, often, your own fears and failings. But it also provides you with the tools and means by which to meet and overcome these things. Parkour training brings about a deep sense of self-knowledge, as you learn who you really are and what you are really capable of – not merely what you may be capable of. There can be no self-deception in parkour, no delusions of grandeur or false bravado. Either you can do the task or you cannot – and this honesty is what makes parkour such an incredible tool for gaining true self-knowledge, and then for progressing from there.

Our Work

Parkour Generations works at the highest level across every field in the discipline; from running the first and largest parkour teaching and parkour certification framework in the world, to providing performance and consulting for all manner of media and professional projects, to giving international presentations to government bodies, to film-making and photography, to corporate team-building and improvement, to leading academic and physiological research on the social, cultural and physical effects of parkour. Our standards are second to none.

Most importantly, though, we believe passionately in the enormous benefits this movement revolution has brought and can bring to the modern world and that is reflected in every single project we take on, from the very small to the very large.

What is parkour?

Parkour / Freerunning / Art du Deplacement is the primarily non-competitive physical discipline of training to move freely over and through any terrain using only the abilities of the body, principally through running, jumping, climbing and quadrupedal movement. In practice it focuses on developing the fundamental attributes required for such movement, which include functional strength and fitness, balance, spatial awareness, agility, coordination, precision, control and creative vision.

It is a sport that encourages self-improvement on all levels, revealing one’s physical and mental limits while simultaneously offering ways to overcome them. It is a method of training one’s body and mind in order to be as completely functional, effective and liberated as possible in any environment.

The sport aims to build confidence, determination, self-discipline and self-reliance, and responsibility for one’s actions. It encourages humility, respect for others and for one’s environment, self-expression, community spirit, and the importance of play, discovery and safety at all times.

See Your Space Differently

The parkour practitioner sees obstacles as stepping stones to enable them to reach their goal, be it in movement or any of life’s challenges. Parkour encourages us to expand our awareness of our immediate environment, in order to better identify potential opportunities for movement, progress and growth.

When we begin to see our world through a different lens, our vision of ourselves shifts and grows in accordance.

Physical + Mental Growth

Being grounded in real-world challenges by its very nature, parkour expects, develops and prizes functional attributes over all others. Parkour, at its core, is what works in any given situation to complete the task at hand – in physical terms this means the strength, coordination, speed, balance, spatial awareness and agility to move one’s own body across any terrain with confidence, surety and control.

In mental terms this means having the courage, discipline, perception and self-mastery to be able to decide upon a course of action and then carry it out as perfectly as possible.

Unlimited Possibilities

Parkour will make great demands of you, physically and mentally, and in doing so it will begin to shape and strengthen the spirit. By this we mean one’s character, integrity and core values – those things that are most important throughout life and which need constant work and improvement.

The spirit of parkour is one of adaptability and versatility – to be able to meet and understand any challenge, any situation, and to overcome it with grace, elegance and ease. Parkour is solution-focused at all times.

We start together: we finish together.

Though in itself a purely individual skill, parkour has always had at its heart a powerful sense of community and social responsibility. To be strong to be useful, one of the original maxims of parkour, is as true today as it was when it was founded. Why become strong, capable and effective if you never use it to help others and improve the world around you?

Our idea is always to share our strength and to be of service wherever we can, on any scale – from helping someone with their heavy luggage to launching global ecological initiatives.

Parkour Generations was central to the creation of the world’s first National Governing Body, Parkour UK, and was a founding member of the International Federation for the discipline – FIADD.

For the past 6 weeks I have been attending a beginner's course with Parkour Generations. I can not describe how different I feel having completed it. There has been a trickle effect into all my other training, I feel more motivated, focused and ready to take on any challenges presented to me. I want to say a huge thank you to all the instructors and students for being such an inspirational group to train with.

The classes offered at PKGen London are excellent. I generally keep fit with gym and running etc. but after taking a class I am sore for days showing how intense and deep the workout is. Not only do you learn practical skills of balance and physical confidence through staged, increased difficulty but it is a great complement to other physical exercise building core strength and stamina. The teachers are all very competent and helpful; pushing you hard while finding exercises within your ability.

100% Recommended!!! It’s been a long time since I’ve entered an exercise facility and have been SO impressed with. The first thing to hit me was the welcoming nature of everyone and the complete lack of ego. It creates an environment where you feel free to share, express, be creative, learn and try. Which leads me to the next point. Competent staff and coaches. Passionate and well trained in their own abilities and to bring out the best in others. And with the range of activities, classes and workshops here, there is something for everyone... almost literally everyone, no matter age or ability.

Everyone at The Chainstore was super friendly and helpful right from the moment we arrived. The workshop was really challenging in a positive way, whilst being totally in tune with all of the group’s individual abilities. We left feeling tired, but buzzing from a great experience. People from the group are already talking about coming back for more.

My main aim in parkour is to build my upper body strength, to be able to perform at my peak. It’s incredible how many muscles you use, that you didn’t even realise you had when training parkour. I used to think that my upper body strength was fairly good, but it’s really put into perspective when you’re trying to climb a rope, traverse a ledge or even pull yourself up and over a wall after landing a cat leap. I would definitely recommend these sessions to anybody who is serious about moving forward with their training journey.

The Parkour & Movement Camp by Parkour Generations is such an amazing way to get inspired and improve your overall ability as well as getting some vacationing done. Great coaches, great team spirit and amazing environment feels so more rewarding when it’s well earned and you pay it with your sweat.
